That, however, with pachyderms, is not con-clusive. An ordinary body-wound is rapidly closed bytheir solid hides, and no blood is given. Of course,should the lungs be injured, the animal bleeds from themouth. The eland now led us upwards and west-wards, on to open veld where we could see for milesstretchino- away towards the Molo Kiver, and as nothino-was in sight, after four hours spooring, we were reluct-antly obliged to abandon that quest as c[uite beyondhope.
