He further held that when a soft sore arose thesyphilitic poison lost its infective properties, and could be transmitted asa soft sore to a healthy person, and not cause general infection.^ The chan-croidal ulcer is not connected with the syphilitic poison, but is developedby inoculation with the bacterium of Ducrey.
