New Yorkers, tourists and subway buffs travel on the West Side IRT line in an MTA Nostalgia Train on Sunday, September 11, 2011. HBO is sponsoring the rides on every weekend in September to promote their Boardwalk Empire television series, spending $150,000 to do so. The IRT train consisting of four Lo-V cars were first put in service in 1917 and were retired in the 1960's. The straps, ceiling fans and rattan seats are a far cry from the plastic and air conditioning in modern subway cars. The Metropolitan Transit Authority has several of these trains for the various subway lines which they put into use for special occasions. the trains normally reside in the Transit Museum in downtown Brooklyn.
