An English Oak (Quercus robur) lends support to the English Ivy, Hedera helix.
In some cases, ivy (Hedera helix) can become top-heavy on young or very old, unstable trees, but generally they provide excellent shelter and food for wildlife and the Woodland Trust advocates leaving it in-situ.
