He went overseas October 27,1917, and was in Foggia, Italy, at the American Aviation Camp (Campodi Aviazione Sud) from November, 1917, until October, 1918. He wasan instructor five months of that time. In October he went to the ItalianFront, participating in the last offensive (Battle of the Piave). Hereceived the Croce al Merito di Guerra from the King of Italy. He madethree trips over the Alps, after the armistice was signed, carrying bread tothe people in the devastated areas, which were cut off from all supplies,Caproni planes were used for all bombing expeditions. Lieutenant Ken-nedy was among the first Americans to arrive in Italy, and was sent tothe school there to receive his flying instructions. He did no flying inthis country.
