North face of Aberlemno Class I Pictish symbol stone, Angus, Scotland, UK, incised with a serpent, a double disc and Z-rod & a mirror and comb. An early Pictish monument, probably 7th century AD, the sculptor has made use of a prehistoric standing stone carved with cupmarks near the base of the opposite face. Along with two other Pictish sculptured stones it stands beside the B9134 Brechin to Forfar road. Pictish stones may display tribal, family or personal emblems & have acted as funerary monuments & territorial boundary markers.
