Brain stress research. Biologist (left) and physiologist observing primary hippocampal neurons using a fluorescent microscope (centre) and real-time calcium imaging. Primary hippocampal neurons ae nerve cells found in the hippocampus, a region of the brain. This research is to determine the effects of blueberry polyphenol treatments in protecting against oxidative and inflammatory stress. Polyphenol is a natural substance found in blueberries and many other plants. It is thought to be an antioxidant, a substance that can prevent the oxidation of other molecules.
