There were block-houses in the hne with portholes for cannon; onein Pearl Street, in the neighborhood of Bancker;another close to the City Hall; and a third nebetween Church and Chapel Streets. Four gateswere in this fortification: one at Pearl Street; oneat Chatham Street; another at Broadway; and thelast at Greenwich Street.
