Both sides of an ancient medal of Antiochus Epiphanes (Ἀντίοχος ὁ Ἐπιφανής or Antíochos ho Epiphanḗs), 215 BC – 164 BC., Hellenistic Greek King of the Seleucid Empire, known as 'God Manifest'. He was He was a son of King Antiochus III the Great who named him Mithradates or Mithridates. He assumed his new name on his coronation. He attacked and nearly conquered Ptolemaic Egypt and was known for his persecution of the Jews of Judea & Samaria, and the rebellion of the Jewish Maccabees, also for his generousness to ordinary people. He regularly scattered money to the people in the street.
