It was long the residence of the kings,245 and has always been the chief seat of religion and learning. Even inpagan times it was the residence ofthe highpriest of Odin; and in 1026,Everinus, a bishop from England,was placed there, for the purpose ofconverting the natives to Christiani-ty.
