The east Colossus of Memnon, statue of Amenhotep III


The Colossi of Memnon, twin statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III,(1350BC). The statues are made of quartzite sandstone from a quarry at el-Gabal el-Ahmar and were to guard the entrance to his memorial temple. The statues are quite damaged, scaffolding surrounds the eastern statue ready for remedial work. Luxor, Egypt
