The season is now fast drawing on for the fat-stock shows, and, so far as the cattle for these,shows are concerned, the much lower tempe-rature than is usual at this time of year thatnow prevails will be beneficial. A close, muggytemperature is very bad for the finishing off ofthese highly-fed cattle. The poorer brethren ofthese monsters that are at present in most casesout in the fields are also having a very favour-able time, for though the weather iii cold, it iscontinuing generally remarkably dry, which isall in favour of health. The dryness, however,is being felt terribly in some districts in respectof the water supply and springs; small streamsand ponds are alike very low. As winter comesOH a little labour should he spared to see thatall ditches and drains thai supply drinkingplaces are open and clean, so that nothing iswasted in that respect.
