A polar bear - is a memorial and a tribute to the 49th Infantry, West Riding Division.


The Polar bear is a sculpture - a memorial to 49th Infantry of West Riding Division which in World war II was stationed in Iceland where they were all snowed in 20 foot of snow. The commanding Officer called these men his 'Polar bears.' Hence Polar bear was adopted as their Mascot and Shoulder flash. This sculpture was made of Yellow hard wood.
