Artwork of a Canadian cemetery on Vimy Ridge, France, during World War I (1914-1918). The Battle of Vimy Ridge in April 1917 saw Canadian troops take high ground from the Germans. It was the first phase of the Battle of Arras, a major allied offensive that saw the Allies make significant ground in German lines. During the Battle of Vimy Ridge over 3500 allied troops were killed and more than 7000 were wounded.
