A traditional barge within the lock gates at Seend Top Lock, Kennet and Avon Canal, Wiltshire UK.
The Kennet and Avon Canal, linking Bristol and Reading, (with further canals to London). Length miles, with 105 locks. It is made up of three sections- two navigable rivers and one man made canal. The river sections were used in the 18th century while the construction of the man made canal section started in 1794 and completed in 1810. It fell into decline with the advent of the railways however it was restored, mainly by volunteers and reopened in 1990. It is used by holidaymakers and by private boats (many of which are homes).
