Gaza, Palestine. 28 June 2023. A cow is slaughtered in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, on the first day of the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Adha or “Festival of Sacrifice” coincides with the end of the Hajj pilgrimage, a major pillar in Islam. It is a tradition to slaughter an animal during the feast in order to honour prophet Ibrahim's willingness to obey God's command, with a portion of the meat being distributed to the poor
