It is themanagement of this local affection which we are atprefent to conlider. In the treatment of inflamed eyes, the indications tobe kept in view are, to remove any extraneous fub-ftances by which irritation may be produced on theeyes or on the eyelids ; to diminifh pain and irritabil-ity already induced ; to remove the turgefcence of theblood veffels of the eyes ; and to prevent a return ofthe diforder. When it is found that inflammation is induced bythe introduction of fand, or any other extraneousbody, between the eyelids and eyes, the utmoft atten-tion fhould be given to the removal of them. By duepains, the eyelids may be fo far feparated merely bythe fingers of the operator, as to admit of a clear viewbeing obtained over a very confiderable portion of theeye ball.
