DISEASES OF THE BONES AND MUSCLES 2/5 Myositis Ossificans.—A rare condition, in whichlocalized inflammations of the muscles form permanentnodules, which later turn to actual bone, and these, inturn, are attached to the skeleton. Its course is very prolonged. At first there are no sub-jective symptoms produced by the bony masses; but theirincrease in number and size, their attachment to theskeleton, and the accompanying fibrous myositis, resultin an advancing interference with muscular activity, untilthe joints become stiff and the patient rigid and helpless.
