However, this news did not change hismind, and a few days later he set out for New the way they met several other bateaux belongingto neighboring farmers, and on the whole the trip was apleasurable one. When they were approaching NewOrleans they heard that the Spanish intendant hadordered the right of deposit to be withdrawn fromthe Americans. After coming this long way fromCressy, my great-grandfather was in no amiable state ofmind when he heard this news. The settlers for miles around were put into a rage bythis state of affairs, for their produce was now ready formarket, and what other market could be reached butNew Orleans? As my great-grandfather was wellknown in these parts he took counsel with the leadingsettlers as to what ought to be done. The outcome ofthese consultations was the sending of a delegatio
