Bone analysis. Forensic scientist using a light microscope to examine a fragment of bone. Bone from a dead body can be examined for evidence concerning the cause of death. This is often done in murder cases, when a knife or bullet can leave identifying marks on the bone. These marks can be used to link the murder weapon to the victim, and help convict the murderer. Examination of entire or partial skeletons can help identify a body's age, gender, height and sometimes race. Photographed in Italy.
