Erskine, Baron Bailie of Alloa, who, in 1709, wrotea short account of the family, refers to a charter which hebelieved to exist, but which he had not seen, granted toSir John for services at the battle of Largs. Some timebetween 1300 and 1309, James, the High Steward, grantedto John Yrskyn, son of John, son and heir of Sir John,certain lands in the holding of Largs, which shows thatSir John was then alive. He is therefore probably theJohan de Irskyn who appears among other landowners ofRenfrewshire in the Homage Roll of 1296. A seal believedto be his is still attached, and is thus described: A stagshead cabossed; between the antlers a small four-footedanimal passant to sinister. Legend, S. Johannis de Er-kyru (?)
