Inverness - Capital of the Highlands

Know as the Capital of the Highlands, Inverness is the major city in the north of Scotland. The Caledonian Canal runs from Inverness through Loch Ness and the Great Glen to Fort Augustus on the Atlantic side of the country. The view here is from Inverness Castle looking down on th centre of the city where the River Ness runs through. The river is tidal, and not navigable. The start of the Caledonian Canal is on the edge of the city and leads into Loch Ness allowing vessels to travel between the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and avoid the treacherous Pentland Firth.
