The Holkar dynasty ruled as Maratha Rajas and later Maharajas of Indore in Central India as an independent member of the Maratha Empire until 1818. The founder of Holkar dynasty; Malhar Rao Holkar built Rajawada, the seven storied building in 1747 The architecture of the palace is a fine blend of a mixture of Maratha, Mugal and French style.
