On the 20 Jan 2019 the ice strengthened sailing boat, Icebird became stuck in 90 sea ice after its engine broke. It sent a mayday call which was picked up by the cruise ship, Ocean nova, that went to its rescue, towing it 50 miles to the nearest antarctic base to effect repairs.
