Pterosaur hunting a dinosaur. Artwork showing the pterosaur, Darwinopterus modularis, chasing a feathered dinosaur, Anchiornis sp. Darwinopterus was discovered in 2009, in 160 million year old rock in Liaoning, China. This species shares anatomical similarities between more recent pterosaur species and an older, basal, group of long tailed pterosaurs. It is considered a 'transitional' fossil between the two groups. Darwinopterus had a wingspan of metres.
