Close-up of a Common Green Magpie on a hot day in the forest in Thailand

The turquoise blue colour on the back of this bird indicates worn plumage and would normally be emerald green like the lower parts of its body. The Common Green Magpie (Cissa chinensis) is a member of the crow family (the Corvidae). It is found from the lower Himalayas in north eastern India in a broad south easterly band down into central Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and north western Borneo in evergreen forest (including bamboo forest), clearings and scrub.
