A view of the remains of Sawley Abbey, an abbey of Cistercian monks in the village of Sawley, Lancashire, England ( historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire). It was a daughter-house of Newminster Abbey, Northumberland . Sawley abbey existed from 1149 until its dissolution in 1536, during the reign of King Henry VIII. It is controlled by English Heritage and is a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument.
