In a corner is a spigot with runningwater, from which the bather drinks to increase the perspiration. An arrangementfor a shower bath is also placed inside. When the bather has perspired suffi-ciently, he takes a shower bath of luke-warm water and goes into another room, where he lies down on a bench and is scrubbed and washed by baderskan (thewoman employed for that purpose. It is interesting to note that a woman isalways employed even in the badstu for men). When the bather has beenscrubbed he again returns to the heated room, where he remains for a fewminutes, then he takes a cold shower-bath and plunges into a cold pool for a shortswim. He is then dried by baderskan, after which he withdraws to his littlecell for dressing. The author has seen such baths in Stockholm and even inHedemora, a small village in central Sweden. * Cf.
