Egyptian constellations for Orion and Sirius, in the night sky above Luxor, Egypt. For this image with drawings, see image C045/6463. The Egyptian constellation for the stars of what is today called Orion is a representation of the god Sah, with his consort Sopdet (centre right). These gods were later combined (syncretized) with the gods Osiris and Isis. Both are depicted in boats, holding sceptres and a key of life (ankh). This relates to a common story related to this constellations, where Osiris is brought back from the afterlife by Isis, symbolised by the constellation of Orion tilting as it rises above the horizon, appearing to be raised by the star Sirius.
