Business continues fairly brisk, not- withstanding the extreme shortage in roses and the unsatisfactory quality of this season's carnation crop. Orcliids arc abundant, but it looks as though St. Valentine's day would absorb the vis- ible supply, as there seems to be so little other stock on the market that is really worth while. Bulbous stock is not up to the usual mark this year, and the Dutch exporters arc getting in wrong witli many of the horticultural societies throughout Canada, by sending them inferior bulbs. So far there liave not been any fail- ures in the florists' trade in Canada, though collections with many firms are not what they should be, certainly not what they miglit have been if the courage to say "No" had been exer- cised at the right moment. With Easter so close at hand and coal no longer the bugbear of the situation, the smaller greenhouses should pull through with even less difficulty than the larger ones. Various Notes. E.
