False-colour scanning electron micrograph to show the construction of a knitted polyester fabric. Polyesters are formed by the condensation reaction between polyhydric alcohols and polybasic acids. Linear polyesters are saturated thermoplastics and linked by dipole-dipole attractions as the carbonyll groups are polarised. They are extensively used as fibres. Magnification: x2 at 35 mm size.
