Turbines in Murray 1 power station. Murray 1 is the second largest power station in Australia's Snowy Mountains hydro scheme. It has ten, 95 megawatt turbine generators. Each turbine can generate enough electricity to power 95,000 homes. The whole Snowy hydro scheme generates an average of 4500 gigawatt hours per year and produces 11% of Australia's electricity. Sadly nearly all the rest of Australia's power generation is from coal fired power stations. The scheme also provides 2360 giga litres of irrigation water.
