Stems long, floating horizontally beneaththe surface of the water. Leaves alternate,6-io-dichotomous, usually less than i¥ long,bladder-bearing; scape 1-4-flowered, with awhorl of 4-7 inflated floats, above the floatsI^-4 high; floats up to i* long, lobed andfinely dissected toward the ; pedicels 4-10 long; corolla 6-g long, the upper lipsuborbicular, undulate, the lower lip about thesame length but broader, 3-lobed. with aprominent 2-lobed palate; spur conic, obtuse,appressed to and shorter than the lower lip. In ponds, Maine to Florida and Texas, near thecoast.
