Knai Bang Chatt, three 1960's Miami style villas on the coast of Cambodia restored as a boutique hotel.

Knai Bang Chatt, three 1960's Miami style villas on the coast of Cambodia recently restored and opened into a stylish boutique hotel. The once resort town for French dignitaries and Phnom Penh socialites, Kep was the first Cambodian town to come under a fire from the Khmer Rouge in 1975. The town has virtually remained empty ever since- the shells of once villas line the beach front and surrounding hills. Spurred on by Cambodia's recent tourism boom, some of these villas are being renovated and converted into hotels, like Knai Bang Chatt, by Axel Verdoordt's son Boris. Cambodia's south coast is undergoing a building boom, the government releasing lease titles around Sihanoukville and several off shore islands, all attracting tourists. Plans include golf courses and several billion dollar casinos on off shore islands. Tourism Minister Thong Kong says he hopes to build a corridor for tourism linking Thailand to Vietnam.
