The refurbishment of Centre Point London, seen through the glass roof of the new Tottenham Court Road underground station

Centre Point is one of London’s best known landmarks, which can be seen for miles across the city. The icon has been used as a navigational tool since the 1960s, thanks to its prominent location and unique position on London’s skyline. Centre Point was built in 1966 and is one of the great works of modern architecture. The building was commissioned by renowned developer Harry Hyams and designed by Richard Seifert. When it was created it captured the adventurous spirit of 1960s London, which has inspired the design of Centre Point’s transformation. Its status as a national treasure was confirmed when it became protected by English Heritage thanks to the exceptional, and pioneering design of the building. The transformation of Centre Point includes a new square, lined with innovative cafes, shops and restaurants. The pedestrianised square will provide a gateway to Covent Garden and affirm Centre Point as one of London’s greatest locations.
