Interior of the Guild Chapel of the Holy Cross with a mural representing Judgement Day, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, UK.
The murals, called Judgement Day and The Allegory of Death are candid reminders of death; featuring crucifixes, angels and devils, tortured souls in hell, and a large figure of St. Michael the archangel. These medieval murals by Hugh Clopton should have been destroyed in 1563, but John Shakespeare(William Shakespeare’s father) had them covered in limewash instead, preserving them for centuries.
