Butler ascendedthe platform and stated that a pleasant duty haddevolved upon him, it was that he should call theFirst Colored Catholic Congress of America tj orderand proceeded to read the call as follows: A CALL. In view ol the zeal of the Holy Catholic andApostolic Church, to convert and educate our race inthis country, and of the facts that we as Catholics cando much in bringing about a consummation of thegreat work; and that we have not as much infor-mation as we should have of the number, locationand progress of the race in Catholicity; and that it is 13 ««r duty as Catholics to do all in our power to aid isthe conversion and education of our ^^ We, the undersigned, earnestly request that rep-resentatives of all the Colored Catholic Organiza-*tions meet with us in Washington, D.
