Sergeant Carnochan, a photographer for the SC (Signal Corps), took this photograph on December 2, 1918 near the Vesle River in Bazoches, France. The photo depicts a grave made by one of the regimental burial parties, where a body was buried. The body would later be disinterred by the Graves Registration Service () and transferred to a nearby cemetery. The tag attached to a rough cross, which had become illegible due to corrosive gas poured into the valley during the fighting.
