The first documented reference to racehorses in Middleham was the establishment of Isaac Cape as a jockey in 1733 and he eventually became the first specialist racehorse trainer here. Racing was established on the High Moor as early as 1739 and meetings were held regularly during the 18th century. C
Trains out of Little Spigot a modernised and refurbished yard situated between the High and Low Moor gallops. This yard turns out horses for both Flat and National Hunt racing. Foulrice Park Racing was set up in 2010 by trainer Patrick Holmes in conjunction with his business partners Colin and Ailsa Stirling. Initially the operation was established from leased premises near Malton but in March 2013 moved to Little Spigot, a purpose built yard perfectly situated between the High and Low Moor gallops in the centre of the Middleham Racing Centre. The site has been fully refurbished and modernised to create a first class environment for the training of both flat and National Hunt Horses. Patrick’s approach is to provide a very personal and bespoke service to his owners, recognising that each will have different motivations for being involved in the sport and a different investment appetite. Some will dream of Cheltenham, Ascot and York while others will be happy having fun around the Northern circuit.
