The Supermarine Spitfire Mark IIA being refuelled at No. 19 Squadron was powered by the more powerful Merlin XII increased speed to 377 mph entering service in 1939. The British single-seat fighter aircraft was used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II. It was the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war, albeit in many marks (versions).
