A housetrucker lived-in custom-built bus or lorry parked on open space at Greymouth on the west coast of South Island in New Zealand Housetruckers who lead a hippy lifestyle, are individuals, families and groups who convert old trucks and school buses into portable homes called housetrucks. They live in them, preferring an unattached and freer lifestyle to conventional living. The ageing Housetruckers vehicle began appearing around New Zealand during the mid-1970s. There are now fewer today on the New Zealand roads.[1] Housetruckers travel either independently or in convoys from town to town earning a living from small cottage industries such as arts and crafts, or fruit picking during the seasons. Some use their handcrafted rigs only when taking an extended holiday. Other older vehicles which no longer operate are lifted on blocks and used as permanent caravans or extra rooms on properties and in caravan parks.[2]
