At the dedication of the second building, inAlarch 1763, the patriot orator, James Otis, suggested that thehall be devoted to the cause of Liberty. Here were held thetown meetings, and in the years of agitation which preceded theRevolution many eloquent speakers thrilled and inspired thepeople and kept the spirit of Liberty alive. In 1768 the Four-teenth Royal Regiment was quartered here, and in \7Jz>-J^ theBritish officers set up a theatre in the building. Receptions and OLD BOSTON. 75 banquets were given here to Washington, Count DEstaing, La-fayette, Jerome Bonaparte, Prince de Joi
