NAFPLIO- SEA URCHIN FROM SUEZ TO KARATHONA BEACH

Nafplio, Greece, Thursday 3 August 2023. Urchin species Diadema setosum, whose spines can exceed 30 cm with slight poison on the beach of Karathona in Nafplio, Thursday, August 3, 2023. This is another marine invader from Suez. The environmental organization Dive In Action closely observes the behavior of these organisms and in collaboration with scientists analyze the data. This species, together with many other species that "escaped" from Suez, is most widespread in the coastal areas of the Cyclades but also in general in the Aegean and the Mediterranean Sea. Its special characteristics stand out, its long spines, the 5 white, evenly distributed, dots on its body and the blue-purple sac in the center of its shell.
