On the front is a standing lion with a staff in his front legs with a freedom hat in the top. The lion is embroidered with gold thread. Below that is a ribbon that runs up the sides with an image of flames at the top. HAEC LIBERTATIS ERGO is on the ribbon. A flame pattern can also be seen in the corners at the bottom. On the reverse is the city coat of arms of Leiden with a crown and a lion
