Electric car splashing through water. Reva is India's first electric car. It was launched in 2001 in Bangalore in southern India. A fully charged battery gives a driving range of 80 kilometres. Its battery is also recharged during travel by regenerative braking. Electric cars may be increasingly important in the future as the world's oil reserves become depleted. In addition, electric cars do not pollute the environment with exhaust fumes, unlike conventional petrol- or diesel-fuelled vehicles. Photographed in Bangalore in 2004.
