NEWPORT, (May 5, 2017) Capt. Mike Doherty, commanding officer, Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), welcomes guests during a ceremony in Perry Hall on board Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. The ceremony was held to officially dedicate the central plaza at NAPS in honor of Navy SEAL Lt. Brendan J. Looney, of Owings, Md. Looney, a member of the NAPS class of 2000 and a graduate of the Naval Academy in 2004. Located between Ripley and Perry Halls at Naval Station Newport, the plaza is the heart of the NAPS campus. The NAPS battalion holds formations there multiple times each day and every NAPS midshipmen candidate passes through the plaza several hundred times during their 10 months in Newport. Looney’s personal core values: be strong, be accountable, never complain; will provide daily inspiration to the future Navy and Marine Corps leaders who are beginning their careers at NAPS.
