Citrate synthase molecule. Computer model showing the structure of the pig enzyme citrate synthase (cyan, blue) with coenzyme A shown in red. This enzyme is involved in the first step of the citric acid (or Krebs) cycle, the process by which mitochondria convert glucose to energy. It catalyses the synthesis of citrate from acetyl coenzyme A and oxaloacetate.
