Music. The National Graded Course of Piano Instruc-tions is used in the Music Department. Two half-hour lessons a week are given each pupil, andthose who have not a piano at home, practice anhour daily at the school. There are also weeklyclass lessons in music history and harmony. Toaccustom the pupils to playing before an audience,each is requested to play at least once during theyear at a meeting of the Literary CATALOGUE OF ST. PAULS SCHOOL. II Course of Study. The Course of Study has been arranged with thedouble object of preparing for college and of train-ing for the active struggle of life; and it will befound broad and effective. The St. Pauls diplomaadmits without examination to the University ofNorth Carolina and to the University of the addition to the Latin and English courses, withtheir usual branches, the school is especially proudof its manual courses. Manual training is a regular part of the schoolwork, and all pupils are required to take it. Be-ginning with the paperfoiding and card-boardmodeling of the lower grades, giving skill to thehands and accuracy to the eye, more advancedtraining is given, until the girls complete coursesin Cooking and Dressmaking, and the boys inCarpentry, and also in Printing, if they wish. The course of study includes two years in theKindergarten, four years in the Primary School,four years in
