ARRANGEMENT OF WIRING CIRCUITS ON CARS FOR THE M URNAU-( )BER-AMMERGAU SINGLE-PHASE RAILWAY Each car is provided with two 80-hp motors, which aregeared to the two end axles of the coach through single reduc-tion gears with a ratio of i to , the running wheels having adiameter of 800 mm (^lyz ins.). These motors enable the carto maintain a normal full speed of 40 km per hour when run-ning either by itself or with a trailer. The two motors arealways in parallel; they are of the lo-pole single-phase com-mutator type, and are built to a design which includes specialwindings for reducing the sparking. It is claimed that thisarrangement has been so successful that the sparking at thecommutator is practically nil over a very wide range of type of motor can also be arranged for running with con-tinuous current if necessary.
