Leaves ovate,oval, or oblong, petioled, obtuse, or the uppersubacute at the apex, crenate, 1-3 long, nar-rowed or rounded at the base or the lower sub-cordate; racemes terminal, solitary or panicled,sometimes also in the upper axils; bracts oblongor spatulate, entire, longer than the pedicels;fruiting i;al>x about 3 long; corolla blue,6-8long, minutely puberulent or glabrous, its lowerlip and lateral lobes somewhat shorter than thearched upper one; gynobase short. In dry sandy woods and thickets, southern Nc\yYork and Pennsyhania to Michigan, Missouri,Florida and Texas. Races differ in size and in pubes-cence. Ascends to 4000 ft. in North Carolina
